  • SEVERE Thunderstorm Threat Saturday Afternoon

    July 30, 2010

The Storm Predicition Center has all of Montana under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday. Large Hail, Damaging Winds, Brief Heavy Rain and deadly lightning are likely Saturday after 1pm and continuing into early Saturday evening. Prepare now for this event to protect your livestock, property and you. Try to keep your vehicles in a garage during this event, shelter your horses and keep your pets indoors. Keep shelter close by if you are recreating on area rivers and streams Saturday afternoon. If you are away from your computer, TV or radio, please have a NOAA weather radio with you so you can get the latest weather alerts from the National Weather Service. Saturday's atmosphere looks very unstable with a combination of factors: thermal trough, monsoonal moisture, good wind shear and good surface heating leading to rising air. Conditions have not been this unstable since June 30th where Bozeman recieved golf ball size hail! The severe weather threat covers the entire state of Montana on Saturday. By Sunday weaker thunderstorms are possible but the severe weather threat should move off to our east throughout North Dakota.
